Asthma Attack Quick Cures

October 12th, 2009

Asthma is a very unpredictable condition. Asthma attacks may happen anytime, and anywhere. During the attack, the chest tightens, lung linings become inflamed, and mucus builds up. All of these contribute to breathing difficulties, which is the main symptom of asthma. An asthma attack happens when foreign particles come in contact with the lungs and the body reacts to it. The irritants can be anything. You or someone around you may suddenly get an asthma attack. What can you do?

The most important thing that you need to have in these situations is presence of mind. Thinking rationally will not only give you greater control over the situation but you will also have a clearer view of the steps that you should be making during the attack. By knowing the best possible course of action panic will be prevented and things will not blown out of proportion.

If you are the one having the asthma attack, you would be able to tell how severe it is. Remember that asthma attacks may progress rapidly and severe cases hinder speech. At the slightest discomfort, tell the person next to you that you have asthma and what needs to be done if it gets worse.

Asthmatics often have self-management plans with them which contain information on actions to take on their respective severity levels. During an asthma attack, it should be the first thing to look for. Asthmatics also have rescue medications or inhalers for dealing with attacks. If the inhalers dont seem to work, immediately call for emergency medical assistance while continuing the use of the inhaler at one minute intervals.

Never experiment with other medications during an attack. Some of the alternative medications and remedies are developed to prevent an attack, not to control. Do not take or give any other medications other than what can be found in the health card. Taking other alternative medication along with the prescribed can cause adverse side effects leading to disastrous results. Always be sure that correct medication and measures are taken before and after an attack.

By knowing what to do during an attack you will be more level headed and prepared as to what steps you will need to take in order to solve the problem. While nobody is wishing for a severe episode, it would be to your advantage if you already have a plan of action for every situation that might get thrown your way.
