Want to get Fit? Learn to Dance!

June 15th, 2009

Who wouldn’t want to learn to dance after watching Dancing With The Stars? How great would it be to be able to put on some of those moves, and after all who wouldn’t want to have all those good looking women or men as dancing partners. I suggest you read the rest of this article before you join some dance course and be surprised.

You need to understand there are two parts to dancing, one is technical and the other part is physical. We’ll talk about the technical aspect first.

When you look at the technical side of dancing, it’s not that hard. Basically you have a series of steps depending on the dance you are doing, and they are done in harmony to the beat of the music. These steps are usually one, two, three, four unless your doing the waltz, which then is one, two, three. The steps can be one of an array of steps, front to back, side to side, and so on. Each particular dance will have its own variations and sequences. The variations of sequences steps are what make different couples dancing the foxtrot look a little different. The thing is the technical part of dancing is having coordination and being able to memorize the steps.

Now the physical aspect is a completely different animal. Technically that dance step can be pretty simple, but physically it can be a killer. If you look at the Hornpipe dance performed by the Highland Dancers, you might see that the steps are technically easy, but physically this is a very demanding dance. Many of the dance steps you see on Broadway are way to demanding for most people, but you don’t have to worry about that is you just want to learn normal ballroom dancing, you won’t have to be in perfect shape

And that’s the great thing about dancing. If you’re NOT in great shape, do enough of it and it will GET you into great shape. Ever look at the legs of dancers? I rest my case. Dancing is probably the best exercise that you’re ever going to get and the best part about itit’s fun. Not like those boring exercises that you’ve been doing at home on your treadmill or whatever.
