Mexican Salsa - The Popular Mexican Recipes Everybody Adores

August 17th, 2010

Salsa is a broad term that represent a variety of dishes all over the world. Although for the most part salsa is identified as particular variety of Mexican sauce. Tomatoes are an integral part of authentic salsas although it has to be said that many salsas are made without the use of tomatoes. Depending on the type of salsa prepared, the tomatoes can be mixed with a variety of ingredients, often onions and chili peppers. There are also a variety of ways to prepare Mexican salsas. They can be cooked or served fresh. The ingredients can also be roasted, grilled, or sauteed first.

Salsa are often used as dips or as a side dish. The mild but flavorful tangy taste of authentic Mexican salsas balances the different flavors in Mexican dishes. Salsas can both enhance the filling effects of plain tortillas and moderate the rich flavors of beans, cheese and ground meat. The original style salsas have also become popular because of their obvious health benefits.

It possesses some disease fighting substances and nutrients like phytochemicals and capsaicin that is induced by ingredients like tomatoes and pepper. Salsas have therefore thought of as healthy flavorful side dishes, appetizers, dips and toppings. Salsas are served along with most of the popular Mexican dishes like tortillas and with almost all meat and poultry preparations. Salsa is so popular that many have and experimented and created different recipes around it over the years. Salsas are now made with various ingredients - various fruits, spices, herbs and even with artificial flavors.

Pestle and Mexican mortar were initially prepared using the main salsa ingredients. These days lot of the work is done by food processors and blenders. Although the aroma that the traditional methods bring is much more satisfying than any achieved by modern gadget.

It is a common concept that Mexican salsas are very hot and spicy. So if you don’t like spicy food be wary of that and make changes accordingly. Real Mexican salsas however are not burning hot. Adding one, maybe two chili peppers, perhaps a serrano, or jalapeno pepper is enough. Tomatillos which are used for Mexican salsa verde are often confused with or substituted with green unripe tomatoes. The two are not the same. Tomatillos are relatives of tomatoes but have a different genus. Green tomatillos may have a husk around them that feels much like paper. When used for green salsa, tomatillos produce a distinctly tart taste..

Many of the ingredients used to make salsa are often roasted in an open fire. These days most roasting is done by means of an outdoor grill or using a oven. Grilling your substances will also make it simpler for you to peel your ingredients. Do keep in mind though that you should not wash your tomatoes and peppers while peeling. The water can wash away part of the flavor that has been derived through the grilling process.

Facts About Fish Oil

July 26th, 2010

Nutrition has become an important word thanks to the involvement of the USDA in our daily food requirements, and the FDA’s involvement in determining what is good and what is not in nutrition supplements. Our overall health depends on what we put in and the amount of physical activity we carry out. The term nutrition as it applies to our daily lives means that we take in what we need to maintain our body’s healthy state.

The development of the human brain doesn’t occur without the necessary input of protein in our daily diet. Without protein there is no intelligence. Our health also depends on our eating habits. Here it is important to note that the body’s ability to remain well under anything other than ideal conditions is a direct result of the nutrition received on a daily basis. Apart from the body, the mind’s ability to remain well is, again, a direct result of our nutritional intake.

How to know whether we are providing our bodies with the right nutrients in right amounts? For this we must know what our body needs on a day to day basis and supply them with the foods that contain them in right quantities. The term nutrition refers to the nurturing of our body to keep it healthy and functioning as it is supposed to do. It involves the provision of nutrients the body needs with proper vitamins, minerals and other needed foods.

Fish oil contains omega3 fatty acids, DHA and EPA which play a crucial role in our daily nutrition. Studies show that fish oil has nutrients that fight depression and especially, bipolar disorder. It also acts as mood stabilizer. Here it is important to note that the countries that consume high fish diets have the lowest rates of depression among their citizens. As far as nutrition is concerned, fish oil plays an important part.

The nutrients contained in fish oil are also known to fight heart diseases and arthritis. Fish oil is also capable of reducing the bad cholesterol levels in the blood. Fish oil reduces the risk of mental disorders and suicidal tendencies. Studies show that the conditions of the patients of Parkinson’s and Alzheimer’s disease improved when they consumed fish oil on a regular basis.

Heart Rate Monitor Watches

July 9th, 2010

While you are working out, it is noticeable that your heart rate increases and the more intense the workouts are, the higher your heart rate becomes, making your heart beat harder and faster.

It is important that you do regular exercises in order to strengthen your bodies, muscles and vital organs such as the lungs and the heart; for without exercise you would have an inactive life that may lead to obesity which has connecting health risks like heart diseases, diabetes and hypertension.

But though regular exercises have a lot of advantages when it comes to overall health, it is still important that you keep regular tabs on how your heart rate is doing.Monitoring the heart rate is very important when you are doing regular exercises especially if you have a history of heart ailments; a too low heart rate means that you are not doing enough exercise to benefit your body, while a heart rate that is too high means that you are overstretching your limits and you are doing more exercise than your heart and lungs can actually handle, the latter can cause injuries which is why it is very important to only do exercises that our body can tolerate.

And this is why people, especially those who are into extreme exercises, always wear heart rate monitor watches. There are many benefits of using these kinds of watches and the first is that it can monitor a person?s heart rate even during times that they are not doing exercises, which is very important especially for people who have histories of heart attacks in the past as they are given immediate warning that their heart rate is increasing.By being forewarned, the person can relax and immediately take the proper medication and rest for a few minutes before going ahead with whatever it is he or she is doing.

Another advantage of using heart rate monitor watches is that if you would like to find out what your heart rate is when you are working out, you don?t have to stop what you are doing every now and then and count your heart rate because you already got a watch that tells you what it is.This is also a great tool in order for you to control the level and the intensity of your workouts, if you see your heart rate increasing, you can make the appropriate changes to your routine in order to normalize your heart rate.

Fifth step: make sue while mixing you don’t create lumps as this mixture should be smooth as well as firm and runny the mixture should not end up doughy either. If you find the consistency to be thick than just keep adding milk until you get the right consistency. Sixth step: your beaten up egg whites now need to be folded in with the other ingredients and this must be done gently. Mixture is now completed.

The Way To Stop Extreme Perspiration

April 15th, 2010

Sweating is a standard factor. But excessive sweating isn’t a standard factor. This is going to be due to few factors. Many people experience unnecessary sweating. It could be in palms, feet, armpits or underarms and will be in face also. Sweating a lot may lead to irritations to several. Also extended sweating decreases the water content in the body paving way to giddiness and slackness.

Sweating happens as a result of the secretion of waste materials by the myoepithelial cells squeezing the merocrine glands and the secretions stored over there are released. Sweat is made up of ninety nine proportion of water blended with the sodium chloride, metabolites and waste materials. The sweat is firmly released on the surface on palms and soles due to 500 merocrine glands are present per centimeter in both the hand and soles.

The disproportionate sweating occurs as a result of taking drinks containing caffeine, alcohol and spices. The 3 things are stimulants and they affect the nerve system resulting in this kind of sweating. All the 3 induce sweating agents. To stop it, all these three factors need to be avoided.

Drink tons of water! Contrary to what the general public think, you really need to drink more water to sweat less.

Unnecessary sweating can occur depending upon our feeling. Some of the reasons are if we are tensed up or in some kind of hurry, looking for something or may be caused by hearing some surprising reports.

Exercise more. This is something nobody wants to hear! However , exercising more does affect the amount you sweat. A body that’s more in shape, has an easier time of keeping cool because of increased blood circulation. Spend a little time working on exercises that target your cardio for most satisfactory results for reduced sweating.

The dresses we wear could be reason for excess sweating too. If you are wearing garments which are made from non-natural fibers, it may lead to excess sweating. Cotton garments may help stop it.

Sometimes damp conditions may make us sweat a lot. So to eliminate this kind of sweating, we are able to utilize the air coolers or air conditioners which paves way to stop over the top sweating.

Using Aromatherapy to Support Better Immune Response

March 18th, 2010

Why So Many Are Sick

All of us have experienced sickness one time or another, some to a larger degree than others. It is widely accepted that the body’s own immune system, a complex network of specific cells created to ward off sickness and disease, is greatly compromised when we eat a poor/acid-causing diet, side-step exercise, surround ourselves with environmental toxins, create continuous stress and have unkind attitudes/thoughts about oneself and others. All of these choices lead to toxic build up in the body. At a certain level, the body can no longer juggle such an overload, resulting in weakened defenses and possible disease.

Using Essential Oils for Immune Support

In these modern times, many are familiar with the stress-relieving qualities of aromatic essential oils and for certain oils, awaken a fatigued body or mind. Well-established research indicates that essential oils are dynamic antimicrobials. Such characteristics are helpful in supporting a fully functional immune system; stress and non-beneficial microbes are known to weaken the immune system’s army of defenses. Few are aware that essential oils can actually strengthen the capacity of the immune system directly to fight off foreign invaders.

Fighting off Disease

Using essential oils to affect the immune system directly is gaining ground in research arenas. For the past two decades, promising research has pointed to the anti-inflammatory properties of essential oils. There is growing evidence that most diseases stem from inflammation. Recent research is currently looking at specific immune mechanisms that are enhanced by essential oils.

Helping the Bs and Ts

At the Laboratoire de Botanique in France (2006) researchers were able to identify that Melaleuca alternifolia was able to regulate the amount of inflammatory-causing secretions found in peripheral blood mononuclear cells (PBMCs). In so doing, natural anti-inflammatory agents, known as cytokines, were still able to be created and thus boosting the body’s ability to protect and restore itself. This in itself is quite a finding, especially for individuals suffering from conditions associated with chronic inflammation.

Inducing Natural Killer Cells

Once a pathogen gets into the cells, it is looking to replicate and destroy tissue, often resulting in painful infections. A branch of the immune system is designated to engulf cellular invaders and send lymphocytes (T cells) to destroy these foreign bodies. At Jeonju University, Korea (2008), researchers found that niaouli essential oil (from an Australian evergreen) was able to enhance the effect of cell-mediated immunity (one of two major branches of the immune system). Researchers support clinical use of niaouli essential oil to control infectious diseases.

Redirecting the Immune Response

The Institute of Neurobiology and Molecular Medicine in Italy (2008) found that Eucalyptus essential oil actually stimulates a component of the immune system known as macrophages. These immune cells are one of the primary defenses against pathogens invading our human cells. Using in vivo (in rats) and in vitro trials, they were able to pinpoint that eucalyptus essential oil does indeed mimic our natural immune response. Researchers propose that such findings may drive develop of a new family of immune-regulatory drugs/treatments altogether. This could be quite helpful for those who have weakened immune systems due to contracted diseases and effects of chemotherapy.

Conclusion

Our remarkable immune system is highly complex and important to our well-being. A strong and balanced immune system is required in order for life to exist on an enjoyable and sustainable level. Results of very recent studies indicate that essential oils could be a new branch of medical treatments for those with compromised immune systems. As conventional pharmaceuticals decline in their effectiveness, it is helpful that science has identified qualities in essential oils that are effective against disease-causing pathogens.

The author has made available reports on specific anti-microbials such as juniper essential oil and other therapeutic aromatics.

Which Is Most Effective To End Sweaty Hands - Iontophoresis Therapy, Lotion Or Surgical Treatment?

March 18th, 2010

If you have sweaty hands, you would know of the differing kinds of treatments available in the market. However, you might not have known the side-effects that would impact negatively in your life.

One of the most effective treatments is ETS surgery which is an easy process to all the related sweat glands, thereby helping to stop sweaty hands. Despite its great success, ninety p.c of patients who underwent the surgery also develop compensatory sweating on the face, underarms, torso, groin or feet. Most develop more than one spot area of compensatory sweating.

You can imagine inheriting a whole new set of sweating issues which would be even more tough to resolve. If having to put yourself under the knife to resolve one hand sweat problem only to bring about more permanent compensatory sweating, I would say this process isn’t worth your time.

Medicated cream comes in numerous forms but most frequently, when all else mild cures like non-prescription antiperspirants fail, the alternative is aluminum chloride hexahydrate, which is a prescription medicine doctors prescribe. You apply the cream overnight till you see improvement to your problem. The obstacle is that it loses the effect inside a year and in addition, it does not work for grim cases where your palms or feet literally drip sweat.

The other alternative is iontophoresis treatment which has been increasing in popularity thanks to the fact that it is not invasive as no surgery is necessary, and there is no known side effect over the fifty years since its debut. It also helps to stop sweaty hands quickly and effectively over time for so long as you keep to the straightforward routine. The only disadvantage is the cost of the iontophoresis treatment device which could run up to about a thousand dollars. There’s an alternative of making your own iontophoresis treatment device which will help you not to only save cash but just as importantly, stop sweaty hands without side-effects.

A List Of Foods That Healthy Dogs Should Not Be Fed

March 8th, 2010

Dogs are known for their ability to eat just about anything their owners give to them- but that doesn’t mean that the food you give them can’t hurt them. There are some types of foods that can harm your canine either immediately or over the course of several days or weeks.

Even some raw vegetables can be bad for a dog. Garlic is an example of something that is natural but still very harmful when consumed for the dog. Garlic salt, garlic powder, and anything made with such ingredients should never be given to a dog. Otherwise the dog will face problems with anemia, where the red blood cells become under attack. Given the severity of the situation, even small amounts should be avoided.

Artificial sweeteners can sometimes cause harm to a dog. Xylitol is a great example that is in use in plenty of foods out on the market today. Xylitol in particular is able to cause liver failure when eaten in significant quantities. When you see a product labeled with artificial sweeteners, be sure to pay special attention for Xylitol.

Some dogs are able have dairy, while others will have digestive problems with any type of dairy products. You could try to use a small bit of dairy in the diet of your dog, and see if digestive problems result to determine if your dog has an aversion. In most cases you may find that your dog is fine with dairy, but if your dog has sudden diarrhea, it’s possible that there may be digestive problems.

One of the biggest wrongs that pet owners could engage in would be to give a dog caffeine or chocolate. Chocolate is known to have caffeine in it, and the caffeine can quickly cause nervous system problems and heart problems. Caffeine may also speed up the heart of the dog, which could cause a serious problem if the dog gets worked up and uses the extra energy to run around. No chocolate or caffeine at all should ever be given to a dog.

Dog diets are hard to balance, since every breed of dog can be different. Each individual dog will also have different likes, tastes, and personality. Focus on building a well-balanced diet instead of feeding a dog table scraps or solely “human food.” Otherwise the proteins and fats may be off balanced, and could lead to health issues later on.

In Conclusion

Dogs don’t have the ability to make proper eating decisions themselves- they will often eat anything in front of them, edible or not. Formulate a diet for your dog that corresponds with what your local veterinarian has mentioned as advice- and be sure to stick to the plan.

Everything You Ever Wanted to Know About Mexican Spices

March 6th, 2010

The herbs and spices used in Mexican cuisine are what truly give you the Mexican flavor you are craving. Without these spices, Mexican food would be bland. These herbs and spices bring out the goodness that we have come to expect from Mexican cuisine. If you truly want to make Mexican food, it pays to know about the spices.

Probably the most well known seasoning in Mexico is chile powder. This is made by mixing many different chilies that have been dried and ground. Chilies are also used fresh or roasted. Chipotle is made from jalapeno peppers that have been smoked and dried. Ancho is made from a chile with a sweet, fruity flavor. Many commercial chile powders that are found at the store are made of a combination of chilies, salt, oregano, garlic, coriander, and cumin.

Epazote is used in bean dishes. This tall green herb is also known as Mexican tea. It adds flavor and helps relieve digestive issues that beans can cause. Epazote is potent, so only add a leaf or two to your dishes. Large quantities of epazote can be toxic.

Annatto seeds are used to color food and give it a distinct flavor. This spice is most often used in rice recipes or sauces. The seeds are soaked in water for at least an hour before using. They are usually crushed after soaking. Some recipes use the leftover water that the seeds were soaked in and other recipes use the seeds themselves. They are a common ingredient in marinades.

Cilantro is an herb that looks a lot like flat leaf parsley. In reality, they are the leaves of the coriander plant. Cilantro is always used fresh. The flavor is a bit pungent and it adds a nice tanginess to a recipe. It works well in salsas, rice, beans, moles, stews, and soups. Cilantro brightens up the flavor of many dishes.

Cumin is a spice made from the seeds of the cumin plant. They can be used whole or ground into a powder. Cumin is often used in conjunction with chile powder to create a balance in flavor. It is often used in soups, stews and other common dishes. Azafran is known as Mexican saffron, or safflower. This spice is used in very small amounts because it can be bitter. It causes the dish to develop a beautiful saffron like color and is often used in rice and seafood dishes.

If you study authentic Mexican food recipes you will see these spices used frequently, along with others such as thyme and oregano. In Mexico, they have a unique type of oregano that is earthier in flavor than Italian oregano. You can find this Mexican oregano in some herb catalogs. Unless you live in an area with a large Mexican population, it may be difficult to find it in local nurseries or grocery stores.

Familiarize yourself with the flavors of Mexico by studying the herbs and spices they commonly use in their cooking. You cannot get an authentic flavor without them. Make the most of your Mexican recipes by learning how to use these spices correctly. Your recipes will turn out much better once you understand the nuances of these seasonings.

Mexicans love chilies so much they even use them to flavor their candy and ice cream! Not everything Mexican is spicy though. You can use fresh chilies, dried chilies or even reconstitute dried chilies to make really good Mexican recipes which taste authentic and are bursting with the unmistakable flavor of Mexico.
