Some Interesting Facts About Liposuction Scars

April 1st, 2010

Because liposuction is a surgical operation, it is not entirely a risk free procedure and so one of the risks that people have to deal with is that of developing liposuction scars. These scars can be potentially quite serious, but they may even be mild. The fact of the matter is that removal of fat from the skin can lead to loosening of the skin, depending on how elastic the skin originally was.

If your body has stretch marks on it, then your skin is not very elastic and this can lead to having to have excessive amount of skin removed. After the liposuction surgical operation has been performed, there is risk that the liposuction scars formed as a consequence of undergoing the operation may turn out to be permanent.

In a majority of cases, just a couple of small sized incisions that are no greater than four to ten millimeters in length will develop around the place where the cannula was inserted. These scars will however be hidden beneath the natural creasing of skin and also by pubic hair and even by the belly button.

It is certainly crucial that you do your best to prevent the scar tissue from turning hard or darkening in its color. This can best be achieved by massaging the tissues with your fingertips and also by preventing the affected area from coming into contact with sunlight.

Liposuction scars are mostly complications that develop after the surgery has been performed and will trouble almost everyone that undergoes such a procedure. The affected area can start turning tender and it can even become painful though fortunately, the problem soon disappears without need to do anything. At most, the scars will remain visible for one month.

Because of newer and improved technologies in performing liposuction it is now possible to undergo liposuction without worrying too much about scarring. This is because smaller incisions are being made and these will normally not be larger than one inch in size. That in turn means that there is very little chance that the affected area will be scarred.

In any case, whatever scarring occurs will be very small and also mostly quite inconspicuous and these too fade away on their own in a short period of time. People with darker skins have more to worry on account of scarring than people whose skins are light in color.
