The ladies were about to receive chemotherapy or hormonal therapy. Several ladies were designated to yoga sessions for a 3-month period. The women practicing yoga experienced a 12 percent improvement in physical weakness, physical functioning, and quality of living in contrast to those who work in the course who did not take the yoga classes. In accordance with this, based on a recent study written and published in the Journal of Clinical Oncology, going to specifically created hatha yoga classes has been shown to improve the stress levels and feeling of well-being of breast cancer patients. Yoga can certainly help cancer sufferers in their struggle, making them have a much better aura as well as a positive mind-set in life in spite of what they’re experiencing.

Also, in 2005, researchers at the University Of Texas did an experiment on 61 breast cancer patients. Thirty of the patients took part in yoga around the time of their radiation treatments. The yoga was personalized for the cancer patients; it focused on breathing as well as relaxation, and also omitted tough routines, given probable restrictions on range of flexibility. The research determined greater physical performance, slightly more effective degrees of social functioning, and lower levels of rest malfunction and physical weakness.

Nevertheless, while many in the medical community disregard mind-body interventions such as yoga exercise, it’s not strange for cancer patients to utilize these strategies to enable them to overcome the lingering unwanted side effects of surgery, chemotherapy and radiation. There exists a small but increasing system of facts that for breast cancer patients, after doing yoga exercises, they’ve got more power and fewer daytime sleepiness, improved physical functioning, and much better over-all quality of life.

Yoga, indeed, is helpful to patients coping with breast cancer, particularly in combating unwanted effects from cancer treatment. Then again, whether or not certain kinds of yoga or certain poses are more beneficial to breast cancer patients is an open question. It’s still better for sufferers to find out what is best suited for them; it is not often the technique. Usually also, it can be the instructor who can assist patients practice the right yoga poses for alleviating the pain of breast cancer. On top of that, meditation techniques might help ease patients by means of radiation and chemotherapy, and that patients claim that yoga has minimized their discomfort levels for everything from headaches to shoulder or joint pain. Buy Muira Puama Herb: Natural Ways To Feel Better

February 24th, 2010

By reading this entire article, you will learn the names of the two herbs that have been used most successfully in treating anxiety panic attacks, and you will learn about six others that have been used with success by some anxiety sufferers. Because of all this helpful information, you will want to read this article from this point to the end.

The minority who do find their lives blighted by these conditions can often be found to be suffering from one or all of the following: self harm and potentially suicidal thoughts, insomnia, lack of sex drive, inactivity and tiredness, and lack of concentration.

Certainly where someone is feeling so anxious or depressed that the medical profession would categorize them as clinically depressed or anxious immediate help should be sought from a professional. However where someone is suffering from a milder form of anxiety then there may be alternatives to the common anti-depressant drugs that often appear to make things worse for less serious cases.

St. John’s wort - In the world of herbs for depression St. John’s wort has garnered the most attention from researchers. Positive research results seem to support its effectiveness in treating mild depression. It is thought that this natural herb works by reducing the rate at which brain cells reabsorb the neurotransmitter (brain messenger) serotonin, low levels of which have been linked to depression.

Kava - Kava is member of the pepper family and is found in the South Pacific. It is popular in Europe, with four European countries approving Kava preparations for the treatment of depression. Kava seems to be most useful in cases of depression with severe anxiety. There are a few side effects linked to Kava and if you are considering this herb you should do some additional research.

Ginkgo biloba - You are probably surprised to find this supplement on my short list of potentially helpful natural herbs for depression. The simple reason is it may be helpful in helping our senior citizens maintain a healthy positive attitude and avoid depression. A research study concluded Ginkgo biloba was effective in increasing serotonin receptors in people age of 50 and older. This is important because as we age there is a reduction in the number of serotonin receptor sites on brain cells make elderly people more vulnerable to depression. The more serotonin receptors lost, the deeper and darker the depression; Ginkgo helped offset this problematic progression.

If you if your anxiety attacks are only mild to moderate, passionflower may help calm your nerves. Valerian has also been shown to reduce anxiety in a few studies. Other supplements that have been used with success by some anxiety sufferers include Tryptophan which is an amino acid, fish oils and GABA.

Fish oils have helped some people stabilize their moods but it does take several days of high doses to have an effect. The amino acid GABA is a neurotransmitter supplement that has helped some people although it has not been tested exhaustively. Can you imagine how much better your life would be and how much happier you would be if you could just stop those anxiety attacks forever? Visit my web site today and I’ll show you a half dozen ways to free yourself from the pain and suffering of anxiety attacks FREE! Click here NOW or you’ll miss out on this critical information.

Cat’s Claw is a tropical woody vine that grows in the rain forests and jungles of Peru and has been referred to as “Miracle Herb of the Rain Forest “. The vine derives its name from the small thorns at the base of the leaves, which look like a cat’s claw.

Cat’s claw has been used, in combination with the drug AZT, for individuals who are HIV positive. Research continues to explore the usefulness of cat’s claw for viral infections such as HIV and herpes.

The active constituents are quite variable and depend upon the time of the year when the plant is harvested. While the stem bark has some activity, the root is three to four times more active than the stem bark. Some of the known active compounds in cat’s claw include alkaloids, triterpenes, phytosterols, and proanthocyanidins.

The active ingredients in Cat’s Claw are alkaloids, tannins and several other phytochemicals such as oxinole alkaloids, triterpines, glycosides, and sterols. These phytochemicals have adaptogenic, anti-tumor, antimicrobial, and anti-inflammatory properties.

Cat’s claw consists of the dried bark from the root or stem of Uncaria tomentosa or Uncaria guianensis (two Amazonian vines). These large twining woody vines can grow to a length of 100 feet. The bark of the vines has long fissures and is yellowish to yellow-green in color.

Exploring Different Types of Treatment for Tendon Strain

December 3rd, 2009

Sports injuries are the most common activities that may cause tendon strain. The Achilles tendon that connects the calf muscles to the anklebone are often injured by those who play basketball.

Rest and ice pack applications are some of the best treatments for this type of injury. Wrapping the area securely, but not too tight is helpful for the prevention of swelling and the relief of pain. Elevating the area while resting, may also help to reduce the discomfort of swelling and pain.

If you are not careful, overstretching the tendon with repetitive action, while putting excessive on the area can cause damage to the tendons and cause pain and swelling. For instance, a weightlifter may cause his or her injuries by neglecting the warning signs of pain, since the body sends painful warning when it is overworked and stressed and in need of rest and recuperation time. You can condition the body for tendon strain beforehand by doing stretching and strengthening exercises as do professional dancers.

When someone has indeed suffered an injury or tendon strain, it’s often very easy to diagnose by looking at the loss of range of motion the patient is suffering. However, a physician needing further assessment may order required tests through the use of an MRI, ultrasound, or even x-rays. Nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drugs (NSAIDs) will usually be prescribed as well.

After healing from surgery, through care is essential. A surgeon may suggest the stretching and strengthening with a daily exercise regimen for the injured muscles. Most often, exercises are done while in warm water to help prevent re-injuring the area. Sometimes you may need to visit a physical therapist to help ensure the proper maneuvers of such exercises. Therapy may involve more than just exercises. Depending on the cause of the injury, the use of soft tissue massages, stretching, running and gait re-education, or ultrasound therapy may be necessary. Various types of splints may be necessary or even the use of cortisone injections or perhaps a medicine for numbing the area may be required.

Physical therapy may comprise of strengthening exercises, ultrasound therapy, soft-tissue massage/mobilization, and stretching and also gait or running re-education. If the tendon strain was done to the Achilles tendon, the surgeon or doctor treating the patient may order appropriate shoes that properly fit your personal foot type. Also, the appropriate shoes may have to actually fit the particular activity. For example, running shoes are different from those used to play basketball. Having the appropriate shoe will prevent recurrence of the condition sometimes. Tendon strain accounts for as high as 50% of sports injuries, thus it may be very important to prevent them from happening.

Tennis elbow or golfer’s elbow are excellent examples of sports related injuries that are often created by misuse of the sport’s instrument. Tendon strain is quite common in these sports as well, and the treatment is the same as found above in those instances.

How do You Know When You Have Supraspinatus Tendonitis and How do You Treat it?

November 4th, 2009

Supraspinatus tendonitis, which is also generally referred to as rotator cuff tendonitis, is one of the biggest forms of tendonitis seen by doctors. The rotator cuff is comprised of many tendons and it is the supraspinatus tendon, which connects the shoulder blade to the arm bone, and it is this tendon that is prone to tendonitis.

The leading cause of this condition is repetitive movement, such as the arm movements required for playing tennis and a number of other sports. While a number of sports can result in a person suffering from supraspinatus tendonitis, certain sports are more likely to cause the condition than others. Either way, the pain and discomfort can be unbearable.

As far as sports related tendonitis is concerned, tennis players and baseball players tend to be most at risk, followed by swimmers, golfer, and etc. However, supraspinatus tendonitis doesn’t only affect those playing sports, because it is also a well known fact that certain occupations carry more risk than others, hence the reason why professions such as carpentry, painting and decorating, and etc. also result in many cases of this condition. Of course, the condition usually manifests itself in the shoulder of the arm which gets used the most.

How do you know if you have supraspinatus tendonitis?

For the most part, the condition usually starts off with a dull pain in the shoulder, although it can in some cases spread down the arm and even across the chest area. Any arm movements such as extending it or lifting it will usually resulted in severe pain. Sufferers may also find sleeping becomes extremely difficult due to the fact that any weight being placed on the arm or shoulder will of course result in severe pain.

If you do not get treatment, the problem will turn increasingly worse and soon it will be impossible to move the arm without feeling a lot of pain. When it gets to this point, people with the problem will do their best to not move their arm, what happens then is that the shoulder joint will become increasingly stiff.

Over and above the pain and stiffness, one can often experience bruising and noticeable swelling around the immediate area. Also, the shoulder area may appear to be red, in which case it will also be tender to the touch. Interestingly enough, when swelling occurs, it usually does so internally rather than externally, although it will of course still be visible.

Treatments

If the condition gets to a late phase, there is no other choice but to go and seek the help of a doctor. Often medications like painkillers and anti-inflammatory drugs are used in a combined effort of physiotherapy to bring back the movement. If the problem results in the tendon being badly damaged, you may need surgery.

If you play a sport or do a job that requires much repetitive arm movements, and you start experiencing a dull ache in your shoulder, do not ignore the pain thinking that it will go away. Know that rotator cuff tendonitis can result in much pain and because of that reason; you must get help as soon as possible.

Carpal Tunnel Massage: the Logical Solution

September 20th, 2009

Many times people who suffer from carpal tunnel syndrome have no idea why. If you think you might have CTS, it’s important to understand the secrets to why this is occurring and you’re having to change the way you live. What happens is many people contract carpal tunnel because they have built pressure around the median nerve. This is commonly done by using repetitive hand movements like typing or hammering. When the area is strained, it tends to swell to a point where you are in constant pain. While surgery has always been an option to correct the problem, you should think about doing CTS massages and exercises.

When you let it go and just think it’s a nagging injury, carpal tunnel comes at you in full force. The pain is definitely something no one wants to deal with, because it can change the landscape of your day in a heartbeat. However, repetitive hand movements are just one of the many reasons why you can develop CTS. Here’s an important list to remember.

Hypothyroidism Arthritis Fluid Retention during pregnancy Smoking Diabetes Bone Spurs Obesity Repetitive hand movements Problems with birth control pills. Any of these issues could make the swelling in the median nerve area occur. If you don’t take the proper steps to treat it, you’ll end up having a long line of sleepless nights as the burning starts to creep up on you. All of these issues contribute to the swelling in one way or another.

Because all of these conditions can cause swelling of the tendons, poor circulation or other conditions that cause pressure on the median nerve, it is important to monitor overall health as one way to prevent the development of CTS.

However, once the median nerve of the carpal tunnel becomes damaged, the following symptoms are often present in the wrist and/or hands: Weakness Numbness Tingling Decreased ability to grip objects Intense pain

After months or even years of chronic pain and suffering, it is not uncommon for some who suffer from CTS to develop depression and experience personality changes as a result of not only the pain, but also from a lack of sleep and a loss of the ability to perform normal activities.

Right now you may be feeling as though you have to live with this agonizing pain. Maybe it’s because you don’t have a health care plan, or the cost of surgery is just too much to bear. Whatever the case may be you don’t need to spend money on something you can do on your own. Anyone who suffers from CTS should realize that you owe it to yourself to get back to the way things were. In order to do it you need to get the proper relief from your carpal tunnel syndrome.

Many people think they’ve tried everything in trying to treat their carpal tunnel syndrome. They are resigned to living with pain and numbness. Tom Nicholson has been helping desperate people like this for years, introducing them to new massage that help alleviate the pain and suffering associated with CTS. Follow this link to learn carpal tunnel exercises that have already helped so many people avoid costly surgery and find relief.
